Research Interests

The main focus of the laboratory is on neuroimmune-endocrine interactions. We study the effects of bacterial lipopolysaccharides and cytokines on brain neurotransmitter systems and how they affect the secretion of hormones such as luteinizing hormone (LH). We also study the effects of chemicals found in the environment and their potential to be endocrine disrupters. For this purpose, we use Sprague-Dawley rats and a combination of techniques such as push-pull perfusion, HPLC-EC, Palkovits’ microdissection of the brain, PCR for detecting cytokines in specific areas of the brain, SDS-PAGE with western blotting, RIAs, immunohistochemical localization of various cytokine receptors etc.
