Neuroscience is a fascinating area of study offering great promise for understanding and treating injury, malfunction, and disease of the nervous system. Advances in the genetics and molecular basis of neurodegenerative diseases and functional imaging of the human nervous system are examples of the exciting developments in neuroscience. A full appreciation of nervous system function requires integrated efforts of scientists from different disciplines working at different levels of analysis. The Neuroscience Program at Michigan State University was formed to facilitate this type of integrated approach to the study of the nervous system.

Giltner Hall
The Neuroscience Program is an interdepartmental graduate program that awards a Ph.D. degree in neuroscience. A broad-based curriculum is complemented by research training in specialized areas of neuroscience. The combination of classroom and laboratory training, plus the vast opportunities for professional interactions at Michigan State University, furnish students with an excellent understanding of the richness and diversity of approaches to the study of the nervous system, and equip them for successful careers in either the public or private sector.
