Each year the Neuroscience Program gathers for a retreat
at the beginning of the academic year to welcome incoming students and to
share data and ideas generated over the course of the summer. The format
includes a mix of talks by students and faculty, as well as a poster session
that includes ongoing research or work completed after the Society for Neuroscience
meeting of the previous year. All but newly arriving first year students
should expect to present something. This provides an opportunity to appreciate
the breadth of the program and to solicit comments from people that might
not be as familiar with your work as your close colleagues or cohort. We
aim for an open and relaxed atmosphere where complements are sincere and
any criticism is constructive. Though the NSP student council facilitates
the event, anyone can contribute entertaining or educating ideas. Bring
something to share: a new technique, some hot data, or an outline of experiments
to come. And of course there's a free lunch.
